Course Structure

Module 1 - The Lasgo Sound

You'll get straight into learning about the classic Lasgo sound and how to recreate it. We start with what makes a typical Lasgo hook / riff and how to achieve this sound in Vital (a free Synth available to anyone) and we'll show you how to download and install it. We expand this with creating a bass with 3 layers and some background filler synth sounds. We pay attention to the rhythm and style of Lasgo whilst making these sounds.

Module 2 - Drums & Fills

In the 2nd module, we focus more on the drums, percussion and fills. You'll learn how to program a typical Lasgo style beat with classic drum fills later on. As the mix progresses, we readdress things like layering up snares to make them 'punch' in the chorus to give it more impact.

Module 3 - Song Structure

Song structure is crucial in any production to keep the listener engaged throughout. In this module, we will pay more attention to how Lasgo arranged their tracks and follow the same theme. For example, the hook-riff right up front, the repeated verse and lyrics, the middle 8 and how it's structured, and how the chorus 'pops'.

Module 4 - Vocals

If you don't ask, you don't get! We managed to get the original Lasgo singer Evi Goffin to sing on this remake. Even though the vocals were great, they still needed tightening up and processing to make the production sound professional. Jay takes you through everything you need to know to achieve this, including his own personal vocal processing chain.

Module 5 - Sound FX

A lot of the elements are in now and the track is nearly there. However without background sound effects, it will sound very dry, boring and unprofessional. Learn how to sculpt sound effects into your productions to make the track come alive and help separate the different sections.

Module 6 - Mix & Master

We have been mixing as we go, so this last mixdown module is not such a massive task. However, we still need to reference and make final tweaks to get the mix up to 100% rather than 90%. You'll not only learn how to mix and master your track, but also how to be an efficient mixer, how to use referencing and feedback from others to your advantage and squeeze that last bit of professionalism out. We must compete with other tracks out there.
