Tech trance lives and dies by its low end, so this is where you start. Program a punchy kick and percussion groove, then build a three-part bassline - sub, rolling bass, and tonal bass - using the free Vital synth. Learn how to separate the kick and bass so they stop fighting each other, use volume shaping to create that signature off-beat roll, visualise exactly what's happening with a free oscilloscope, and discover Demis's secret phaser trick for shaping bass tone. You'll also shape your kick for the perfect balance of snap and rumble.

Learn Demis's quick workflow for building a full arrangement in 16 and 32 bar sections - a DJ-friendly intro, a breakdown, a build, a thumping drop, and a mixable outro. You'll use MIDI clips, colour and clip size as visual place markers to keep yourself in the creative zone, craft snare rolls with velocity, and build crash crescendos that signal every big change before it lands.

Which DAW does this course use?
This course works with any DAW. It is recorded in Cubase Pro 15, but Demis shows free, cross-DAW alternatives for every plugin he uses, and the production techniques themselves are universal. All you need is a DAW that can load VST or AU plugins (for the free Vital synth).
Is this suitable for complete beginners?
This course requires you to know your way around your DAW of choice. It is not designed for someone who has never opened music software before. If you've completed one of our beginner DAW courses or have equivalent experience, you're ready. Trance theory and sound design are taught in plain English, but DAW basics are assumed.
Do I need to buy any plugins or software?
No. The entire track is built with the completely free Vital synth plus free plugins (such as Klanghelm IVGI 2, DDMF Oscilloscope, Ven Audio Free Clip 2, and the D16 Frontier limiter) and your DAW's stock tools. Demis occasionally mentions paid favourites he likes, but you never need to spend anything beyond the course price to build the complete track.
What workfiles are included?
All audio samples, MIDI files, and presets used throughout the course are included, along with exclusive Born To Produce Vital presets made for this series and a free acid lead. You can follow along building the exact track in your DAW, then pull the project apart to study how everything fits together.
