Check out the first 4 lessons of the course and see how easy it really is...
Module 1 - Let's Get Started
After a short intro from your tutor Jay, you'll get right into using Cubase and making sounds. There are of course many ways in which to make this happen in Cubase but we'll start with a look at the sampler track and how to use it to easily make a Deep House drum beat. As you progress through this early stage you will learn about the basic functions and how to navigate your way around Cubase's interface. This is just a quick and simple start to get you warmed up before we ramp things up and start on more advanced features and techniques.
Module 2 - Bass & Synths
This module encompasses quite a few areas of Cubase & music production/sound design. You will learn about subtractive synthesis using the built in Retrologue synthesiser and use this along side other sounds to make a multi layered and awesome bass sound (the one in the video above). You will also be using other built in instruments like Halion Sonic SE and creating a musical structure to your track using various techniques that can all be used in your own productions to build up the foundations of your tracks and add more quality content.
Module 3 - FX Processing
This module is focused on creative processing of the elements in your track and is where the tune really starts to come to life. Deep House is fairly minimal so here you will learn how to add great amounts of interest to any sound with stereo widening and delay tricks. You'll learn to use advanced reverb automating techniques to generate movement and tension/release in the normal sections of your track. You'll also learn about routing tricks like side chaining the bass lines multiple layers together to make it really interesting and fat.
Module 4 - Arrangement
The total length of the final track is 3 minutes 30 seconds (radio edit) and in that time you have to keep the listener pulled into your track and the arrangement is make or break in this regard. Here you will learn all of the tricks and theory to help you always come up with arrangements for your tracks that will keep the listener pulled in. You will learn about the correct length for the sections of your track, when you should make changes, when to have a build up, how to generate tension & release and a whole load more.
Module 5 - Mixing Vocals
The vocal plays a big part in this track as one of the lead elements so it is vital to get this right. Here you will learn all of the necessary skills needed to manipulate a few recordings into a fine polished gem of a performance. You will learn much more than just pitch & timing correction, using ad-lib takes to flesh out the performance, compressing the vocal, adding depth, adding harmonies, and a whole load more. You can also follow Jay's creative process as he explains how he came about the idea for the vocals.
Module 6 - Mixing Your Deep House Track
Mixing/mastering is the all important stage before you unleash your creation unto the world. Here you will learn how to take all of the elements of your track, and one step at a time go through and mix all the elements together. You will learn about using compression, saturation, EQ, side chaining, limiting and many more tricks and techniques that you can then use in your own productions. All of these techniques and tools will help you create a balanced and exciting mix.
